Game Dev Diaries Season 2 Episode 1 Part 2

 GAME DEV DIARIES

Season 2 Episode 1

Date: 23rd December, 2020
TITLE: How I work on my games Part 2

Keeping up working on my games can be pretty much a challenge sometimes. However I still make sure to get my work done at the end of the day. And experimenting a bunch of methods to myself productive have either proven more harmful or very helpful in my journey of games.

Motivation is usually an important key factor in making games. It's that emotional boost we give ourselves to get our limits maxed out to the extreme and to do what think we can never do. This emotional booster is indeed an ideal weapon of warfare in the battle to success.

And from my experience, I believe it's an ally you can't really rely on.

Trust me on this

I know that sounds strange so I'll share my experience over the months. When I not doing Game Development but just living day, I often think of so many things. I'm an Overthinker, if that's a thing... So I spend a lot of time in my head just randomly thinking.

When I want to think about my future and see the number of challenges before me I often get distressed by simply thinking about it. I immediately fell like giving up.

Hope is not lost, the reminder of my goals and past achievements boosts my morale and mental combat commences on thoughts shall dominate. During that time I can watch motivational videos and all the game dev vlogs, blogs and articles within reach and the battle remains going on. It's during this time that I often have a look at some aspect of reality.

Cool enough

Strangely enough, the moment I get back to making my game, it's all over. My mind stops thinking of all that paperwork and I'm just working till it's time to stop. I don't feel depressed or motivated, neither do I feel like this thing is hard most of the times unlike when I'm not making games where I go crazy thinking about everything in good and bad ways.

To put it simply: When I make games, I feel normal.

Yes that's true. If you want to see me at one of my most calm. You can watch me make games, or even playing but not when I'm competing. I don't rely on motivation to work on my game and I don't feel off about making games when I'm making games.

This is what I work with.

Confusing yes, and so I'm I but that's how I work on my games. It's my passion, and I love following my passion without interrupting my mind with unnecessary emotional turmoil. It's just something that I learnt how to build over the years.

It's called SELF-DISCIPLINE.

I can't wait to finish my game. I can't wait to see what it will finally look like in reality.
