Game Dev Diaries Season 2 Episode 1 Part 1

 GAME DEV DIARIES

Season 2 Episode 1

Date: 16th December, 2020
TITLE: How I work on my games Part 1

I always think of so many things. One common thing I usually imagine is having the perfect working day. Of course not in terms of being employed but working on my game. I think about it almost every day and it's gone to a perfect extent that it seems like I mock myself about it.

I wake up a 5AM, I do some 30 minute workout, I take a shower, clean my parents house and be done by 8:00 AM. Afterwards, I get some breakfast and immediately by 08:30AM my laptops on and I work on game till probably 1:00PM and rest for an hour. I spend this time checking my social media and have lunch. But I make sure by 02:30 PM I'm back on the PC and I work till 5:00 AM.

Job's Done

When time finally comes I stop and save my final works and go for another 30 minute workout, take a shower and immediately, I grab a notebook and spend at most up to an hour planning for the next day. then I spend the night for fun.

My laptops not a studio anymore, but a laptop and I watch my movies, anime or slam a few games. and 10:00 PM (Or 11:00 PM) I crash on my bed for the next. Sounds like a pretty, almost perfect work at home schedule right? And it sounds like a pretty productive period.

All that time spent into building my personal project. That's a pretty powerful work schedule. And I always tell myself to follow that. And here's how my day goes averagely.

Let the Truth speak

I wake up around 5:00 AM, I grab my phone and go on social media and check if I got any messages (Usually there's none) And whether I find messages or not I switch over to Facebook and read some stories updates I currently follow and read to my heart's content(without replying to messages if I find any).

I get tired of reading the stories and change over to my email where I find Quora digests and read any interesting topics on business and game development. By this time my little bro is up and probably slamming FIFA on my Laptop.

It's 07:00 AM and then I finally get out of bed and see my dad is up and about and bro is where I would find him, I sit to watch a little bit of TV and 20 minutes later my mind is set to do the chores. I work for the next 2 hours and afterwards have my breakfast and I get to my Laptop and watch a show or 2 or play some games before my gets fully set to work on my game.

Usually it's 11 AM

I usually have to wait a while before Unity finally opens my project so I storm off to my room and reply to the messages or check for new messages(Never happens) and again the stories and email. I don't waste time on this part because like I said my mind is set on my project and so it frequently happens that I may find Unity either open or still loading I only check my phone once and that's it.

I work till 1:00 PM when it's lunch. I start playing games or watching shows, Maybe head over to the TV and watch GINX. But during lunch I'm on the laptop watching something. And by 02:30 PM I'm set back to my project and the same Unity procedure happens all over again.

It's 05:00 PM and I'm not tired of working, I just wanna stop, like knocking off I say. I storm my room and scroll my phone to death or play games which in most cases is the latter. Since I'm still putting workout in my system It's not likely I will do it everyday.

Growing up is fun don't you think?

But I do take my shower and continue like that till I sleep. That's how my day goes, a pretty much opposite of what I think about. I'm pretty sure some people might be concerned about my clingy relationship with my phone.

I'll explain that later but it's not something I would actually consider a threat to my progress. There are days when I work only 2 hours, or 10 minutes, and yes even when I don't work at all. TV is not a threat either and so is the other side of the laptop which is the games and stuff.

None that is something I would say contributes to at least 80% of my game dev, if I talked about working out then you definitely can put those things on the list.

Only two things affect my progress. Actually it's just one but I'll say two. I'll make mention of one that is external programs. It's everyday that my day will as calm as that. I have to do some errands or see a friend and usually that disrupts my whole daily schedule and I fail o work for even an hour.

I may not even work at all.

But it's not a real issue. It's just a one day problem and if I can't work on my game I do other stuff like writing my next blog which is what happened with this episode. I just spent 30 minutes and poof I just couldn't continue with the project. But then I felt like writing a blog and so I opened notepad and went nuts for 2 hours.

So my productivity never ends because I always find a way to counter the mishaps. Doesn't mean I'm proud of it though, just impressed. The next point is a critical one. This can take even a month to handle. But I'll save it for the next episode. Welcome to Game Dev Diaries Season 2!
