GAME DEV DIARIES
Season 1 Episode 5
Date: 30 September, 2020
TITLE: Hmmm...Went Far Better than Hoped
Strange, I didn't think I'd move like this much in this month. Seeing how off I was about so many things I expected to barely make much progress in the coming days but I have. I have to say I'm really surprised that so much changed in the last 5 days.
I remember how everything just threw me off. I'd open Unity but wouldn't know what to do or where to start from. Not like everything was too perfect to change, quite the opposite in my case. I'd barely spend 10 minutes just trying to get move this wall here or change the terrain there. I didn't even know which textures I'd use for the ground, the park, the forest.
Let me not talk about resizing everything.
When making the city, I remember clearly that I lacked the knowledge of sizing things up. I think the joy of making the City overtook pretty much everything I had learnt about game design until I put a player then I noticed I was in an ocean of trouble.
Everything was 20x bigger than normal and it made me feel a little stupid... just kidding, I felt like an idiot first thing in the morning for weeks.
But here we are
We resized all the levels, redesigned some areas and replaced a lot of stuff. I haven't finished everything yet and I'm a little disappointed with myself because this month was for code and and everything else apart from redesigning the levels. But no point complaining after all.
I'm sure I'll make it next month.
The most difficult challenge I faced was the feeling of giving up. Last week I had to spend three days away from the PC just to calm down and think straight. I find it easy to get overwhelmed with 3000 goals randomly jumping in your head.
It Always works out, in the Head
It's easy to think of a goal to achieve five years from now when you haven't achieved goal number 1 for the day. In fact I didn't even feel like writing today. But hey, If I don't practice now, what about when things really start getting real?
I'm thinking of adding more content to post at least twice a week. When That will start, I don't know, I'm still think about it.
However I'm still thinking of a logo for this new name. Can't to see it too. It's so good to be back!
